People have been using Cosmetic Products for thousands of years in all cultures to cleanse or change the look of the face body or hair without having an effect on the body’s structure or function unlike drugs used to treat and prevent diseases.

The main ingredients in conventional cosmetics are preservatives and fragrance. There is a strong movement today away from the use of fragrances which can cause skin problems on hypersensitive skin types.

Preservatives prolong the lifespan of cosmetics by preventing bacteria and fungus from growing in the product and damage caused by exposure to light. Preservatives also have a negative effect on sensitive skin but it is rare for serious health problems to occur, therefore cosmetics are generally safe to use.
Natural cosmetics today are generally preservative free. therefore have a limited lifespan. To improve the lifespan of natural skin cream after purchase the cream should be refrigerated. Organic cosmetics can also cause skin irritations to those with allergies to certain plants or flowers.

Hypoallergenic cosmetics are marketed as products that cause fewer allergic reactions, but are still a problem for many cosmetic users.

Sharing Cosmetic Products  or the use of brushes and other applicators can lead to transfer of harmful bacteria from one user to the next so it is best that this is not a common practice.
